One Heat Fan, One Mission: Keep Dwyane Wade In Miami
Without a doubt, Dwyane Wade is one of the best players in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Starting July 1, he will also be one of he NBA’s most sought after free agents along with Lebron James (Cleveland Cavaliers), Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors), Amare Stoudemire (Phoenix Suns), Joe Johnson (Atlanta Hawks) and many others.
Each of the players’ home cities are going to have its team’s fans wanting their star players to stay and they will express it in many passionate ways. So far, there are no fans chaining themselves to basketball arenas, hunger strikes and requests by fans at tattoo parlors for silhouettes of their favorite players or ridiculous stunts, but we are also not yet in the middle of the free agency frenzy.
This week, we will spotlight a fan on our site that has an exuberant pitch campaign for Wade. Mikey Mora from Davie, Florida is a perfect candidate for our Fan Spotlight, because of his utmost love for his favorite team, the @MiamiHEAT and how he demonstrates it through social media to have Wade, his favorite player, stay in Miami.
Mora is probably one of the biggest Heat fans out there and a bigger fan of Wade. Like most people who watched the NBA growing up, he was a fan of legendary Chicago Bulls player Michael Jordan. In Mora’s eyes, Wade reminds him of Jordan in his prime with his ability to drive to the hoop and carry his teammates in pressure situations. Their similarities transcend off the court with the charity work they both do for the communities in which they live. In 2003, when Wade joined the NBA, Mora’s fan torch was passed from Jordan to Wade.
Mora is a true hardcore Heat fan, as he attends a great portion of Miami’s games and is constantly keeping up-to-date with team news via the official Miami Heat website. His social media platform of choice for his favorite team is Facebook, and he has a presence on anything Heat-related. Some of the Facebook pages he frequents and “likes” are the Heat’s official Facebook page, Wade’s official page and some of his favorite Heat dancers (wink wink).
Mora and many Heat fans want Wade to stay in Miami, but he took it to another level by creating his own stay in Miami campaign page on Facebook. The fan page is titled “Lets show WADE why he should stay…” He hopes that Wade notices the page and will realize how much he is loved and appreciated by Heat fans. Below is a snapshot of Mora’s Facebook fan page.
With free agency in July looming, Mora and most Heat fans have a sense of desperation that their superstar player might be signing with another team. Mora turned this moment of urgency into an opportunity to create a Facebook fan page where fans voices can be heard and also an outlet where Heat fans could express their love for Wade. So far, that vision is coming to fruition. Mora’s Wade page has 3,000+ fans and growing at a rapid pace. In addition, Mora’s page has amazing interaction between him, his page’s fans and one another. He is constantly updating the page with news about Wade and other possible free agent players in the mix.
If Mora had a chance to speak to Pat Riley about keeping Wade, he adamantly shouts “BRING HIM HELP!” He is referring to Wade expressing many times that he wants to stay here, but it’s a matter of the team putting together the key supporting teammates.
Every sports radio and TV show from South Florida and the nation are discussing where the top free agent players are going. When asked who his dream team would be for Miami if Wade stays, it was surprisingly not Lebron James, because of Mora’s fear of some fans turning Wade County into Lebron County.
If he was the Heat General Manager and could magically assemble his dream team, the roster would be Wade, Stoudemire, Johnson and Bosh. In the middle of it, a few sign and trades would release some salary cap room for those players. We can dream…can we?
Rhino note: The Heat themselves are trying their best to make sure Wade stays in Miami and are doing their best to mobilize the Heat’s social media-savvy fans with a website campaign catered for fans to express themselves to have Wade return: www.wewantwade.com
