Rhiny Awards

Best usage of Social Media and They Just Don’t Get Social Media Award.

floyd mayweather jrThe Rhiny May award for “Best Use of Social Media in Sports Award” won the award hands down, or should we say, hands up and all over Shane Mosley.  ”Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather kept his undefeated record intact with a crushing unanimous decision over Mosley on May 1.  Despite all of the trappings of a huge prizefight, “Pretty Boy” Floyd found time to communicate regularly with over 500,000 followers on his @MAYWEATHERMANIA Twitter account, and to his credit, he does answer his followers on a regular basis.

For example, a Twitter user named @BMoney30 (Braduan Gayle) told @MAYWEATHERMANIA the following:

@BMoney30 Whats up Money congrats on the win and i’m enjoying your app on my iPhone can’t wait till your next fight 5:55 PM May 7th via Echofon

“Pretty Boy” Floyd responded to @Bmoney30 the next day:
@BMoney30 ok, u like the app? I gotta do some updates. Ima put some sounds bites on it.

9:37 PM May 8th via UberTwitter  in reply to BMoney30

The icing on the cake for this award is the iPhone App mentioned above by @Bmoney30: The Money Mayweather Official iPhone App, which is a FREE app, includes features about Mayweather such as Floyd TV (highlights & interview clips), News, Favorites, Tips, Twitter, Fight Night, Photos and Floyd’s Foundation.  The brilliance of having a FREE app that Mayweather’s boxing fans can keep up-to-date with his exploits shows he is serious about interacting with the public.

Congratulations, “Pretty Boy” Floyd, and good luck in (hopefully) your next fight, the mega showdown with Manny Pacquiao!

Drew RosenhausThe Rhiny May award for “They just don’t get social media or Twitter” as a whole…drum roll…Mr. Next question and super agent, Drew Rosenhaus. He does a great job of blasting news about his players on Twitter, but he has no interaction with his followers/fans. If you are a celebrity or news outlet, then maybe he will respond.

Find Mr. Non-Social Media Rosenhaus on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/RosenhausSports

One of the amusing things is that he will answer your Tweet questions, but only if you request them for his Sunday evening show, Sports Extra, on South Florida TV station’s WSVN FOX 7.

See below his weekly Tweet about it.
